My Mathematics Teaching Philosophy

Students Can Learn Math

My philosophy in teaching mathematics is insistent on that  every student can learn math and become confident when supported by encouragement, meaningful instruction, and given the ability to explore ideas. I want to teach math in an environment that is hands on, engaging, and connects real life to assignments. Students being able to feel safe in asking questions, making mistakes without judgement, and thinking is key. I want to be a teacher who celebrates all wins no matter how small, tools being used, or repeated attempts(Mowbray, M. H., Stevens, E. A., Hansen, S. G., & Conine, D. E.,2026).

What will you see in my Classroom?

In my classroom I will work on memorization but will not heavily rely on that, instead I will have manipulatives, visual models, and collaborative models. I strongly believe that students learn better when they can build on each other's ideas, explain their reasoning, and compare strategies. I would really like to incorporate math discussions and tasks that are open-ended to help build critical thinking and communication.

Math Positivity

Making a space with a mathematical mindset is key! I want to model positive language like "we are learning", Mistakes help us grow", and "Okay, lets try another way" I will help students to reflect on their language, set goals, and learn to love a challenge so they can go along with myself. Overall, I want to make a classroom were math is fun and is not seen as a subject to dread! I want students to leave my classroom knowing they can do math in hard and simple situations with the tools they learned from me as their teacher.
